The people behind Synoma
We're a six-person team building Synoma together with the people who will use it. One of us is blind — and all of us are geeks who love technology, and people.
Synoma started as Insight, a project that grew out of DTU — the Technical University of Denmark. What began as a student idea about technology that leaves no one behind became a company, a prototype tested on real streets, and now the app we're bringing to Synsmessen 2026.
The name is new. The reason isn't: independent navigation for blind and low-vision people, built with the community it serves.
Why we're building this
Our mission
To empower blind and low-vision people to move through daily life with confidence, safety and independence. We do that by building a navigation companion dependable enough to trust with everyday journeys — and by making the world a little more accessible with every release.
Our vision
A world where blind and low-vision people live with full independence, freedom and self-reliance — supported by technology that removes barriers instead of creating new ones.
What we stand by
People first
Every decision starts with the people who rely on Synoma. Their experiences shape our choices, challenge our assumptions, and remind us why this work matters.
Dependable before clever
Guidance is built on GPS, sensors and computer vision that behave predictably. AI helps quietly in the background — it's never the one thing you have to trust.
Tested in the real world
Built and tested with blind and low-vision users throughout development — on real streets and in real weather, not just in the lab.
Quality is a responsibility
Not a feature. We take the time to listen, test and refine, because people depend on what we ship.
The team
Six of us — and one shared stubbornness about getting the details right.
We don't work alone. A dedicated expert panel of blind and low-vision users tests with us throughout development — their feedback carries the same weight as any voice on the team.
How we work together
Listen, test, refine — then do it again.
New ideas start as questions to our expert panel, not as finished designs. We build prototypes, put them in people's hands at workshops, and let honest feedback decide what stays.
Around the team stands a network of partners: disability organisations, municipalities, foundations and DTU. You can see who we work with on the front page.
